I was a bit reluctant shipping my Royal Enfield bullet through Gati KWE from Chennai to Mumbai during Rider Mania 2014 event. Left with no choice, I had to take a chance. The reluctance was only after hearing lot of bad reviews of past shipping experiences from other riders (not only for Gati but overall).
Gati had been a regular sponsor to the RM event. They always had their stalls up and running at the event area providing round the clock services from dawn till mid-night. This was the first RM when I rode my bullet down from Mumbai all the way to Chennai. But I didn’t have plans to ride back home, so had to ship my bullet any how.
At the counter, I met a confused yet helping associate of Gati. Confused, because he was not able to provide the correct quotes and appeared a little perplexed after handling random bikers. Helping, because he had no other choice but to entertain me with all my first-timer questions.
I was charged Rs. 4500 for motorcycle + luggage + helmet + packing. For documents, I’d submitted copies of driving license, insurance, and RC. They gave a lead time of 1 week for delivery. Keep the tracking number handy to keep checking the status online.
Though I was not expecting it at all, but I received the delivery in 1 weeks! The packing was intact; but I was more curious to see bike’s condition once it is unpacked. They took 5 minutes to tear off the plastic and wrapping roll and to my surprise, no cracks, no scratches, 100% as I left it at Chennai.
Word of caution:
- Ensure to take out the fuel completely. Transporting vehicles with inflammable fuel is illegal.
- If transporting helmet, ask the packing guys not to put side mirrors inside it. I got scratches on the visor due to that.
- If you get a call from them to personally come and take delivery of the bike at their office, don’t say no. Otherwise they will take another 1-2 days to deliver.
